Baby and child osteopathy
As an osteopath, I see your baby or child as a whole person. I explore how the different systems within his or her body work together and how experiences during pregnancy, birth, growth, and development may influence overall wellbeing and function.
Every child is unique. From pregnancy and birth throughout childhood, your child goes through an extraordinary process of growth and development. His or her body continuously adapts to new challenges and naturally possesses a remarkable capacity for healing, resilience, and development. Most of the time, this process unfolds naturally. Sometimes, however, your baby or child may show signs that his or her body could benefit from additional support.
As an osteopath, I see your baby or child as a whole person. I explore how the different systems within his or her body work together and how experiences during pregnancy, birth, growth, and development may influence overall wellbeing and function.
Your newborn baby
Birth is a profound and intense experience. During labour and delivery, considerable forces act upon a baby’s body. Most babies adapt naturally to life outside the womb. Sometimes, however, a baby may find this transition more challenging, which can show up in different ways. Parents often seek osteopathic care when their baby:
- cries excessively or is difficult to soothe
- has difficulties feeding or swallowing
- sleeps restlessly or struggles to settle
- develops a preferred head position
- spits up frequently or shows signs of reflux
- appears uncomfortable due to digestive discomfort
- has difficulty with bowel movements
- feels unusually tense or, conversely, very floppy
During a consultation, I gently assess how your baby moves and where areas of tension or restriction may be present. Treatment is always adapted to the delicate and developing body of your baby and uses gentle, hands-on techniques.
Your child
As your child grows, new challenges emerge. Learning, moving, concentrating, processing sensory information, and building self-confidence place increasing demands on a developing nervous system. For many children, this development progresses smoothly. For others, challenges may become visible through behaviour, learning difficulties, physical complaints, or emotional wellbeing. Events such as surgery, fractures, falls, or accidents may also continue to influence how your child’s body functions and adapts long after the original event has passed.
Parents often seek support when their child:
- has difficulty concentrating
- is highly sensitive to sensory input
- becomes easily overwhelmed or overstimulated
- experiences challenges at school
- struggles with learning or development
- suffers from recurring headaches
- has sleep difficulties
- experiences recurrent abdominal discomfort
- continues to experience symptoms after surgery
- recovers slowly after a fracture, fall, or accident
- develops unexplained movement-related complaints
Within osteopathy, I investigate how different systems of the body work together and whether areas of restriction may be placing additional demands on your child’s ability to adapt and function.
By creating more freedom of movement, relaxation, and balance, I support the natural capacity of your child’s body to continue growing, adapting, and developing.
My vision
Your baby and your child possess an extraordinary capacity for growth, development, and recovery. Sometimes, behaviour, tension, restlessness, or physical symptoms may be your child’s way of showing that something needs attention. Rather than seeing these signs as problems to be fixed, I see them as valuable messages that can help us better understand what your child needs.
My role is to listen to what your baby or child is communicating, explore where challenges may exist, and create space for healing, growth, and development. With attention, gentleness, and respect for your baby’s or child’s unique story. Because every child carries an innate capacity for growth, resilience, and healing. Sometimes that capacity simply needs a little extra support to fully flourish.
